10th Annual French and Francophone Film Festival in San Diego

If you live in San Diego then you know that we don't get the best selection of French movies here because quite frankly this city isn't very francophone friendly. We get about French movies a year at Landmark theatres if we're lucky but fortunately SDSU French department organizes a wonderful French and Francophone film festival each year. If you've followed my blog the past two years then you might know that I'm not very fond of alma mater because of how little they care about the language programs but since this event is organized by the department and French Club you can assure that it is good. I've attended the film festival 4 out of my 5 years I was at SDSU and I'm looking forward to attending once again this year. This year the festival will take place from November 21st to the 23rd at SDSU's Little Theater located behind the iconic Hepner Hall. For more information about the film festival including which films will be shown just keep reading.

All films are free and with subtitles!

Thursday, November 21st
Les bien-aimés | Beloved (2011). Dir. Christophe Honoré at 7PM
Stars: Catherine Deneuve, Chiara Mastroianni, and Louis Garrel

Friday, November 22nd
Americano (2011). Dir. Mathieu Demy at 6PM
Stars: Mathieu Demy, Salma Hayek, and Chriara Mastroianni

Les adieux à la reine | Farewell, My Queen (2011). Dir. Benoît Jacquot at 8PM
Stars: Léa Seydoux and Diane Kruger
This is the only movie that I did see while I was studying abroad and honestly I didn't enjoy it too much. It's less about Marie Antoinette and more about her reader, Sidonie. If you're expecting another Marie Antoinette then this will perhaps disappoint you. If you're familiar with the the novel than you might enjoy it.

Saturday, November 23rd
Le bonheur d'Elza | Elza (2011). Dir. Mariette Monpierre at 4PM.
Stars: Stana Roumillac and Vincent Byrd Le Sage

Après mai | Something in the Air (2012). Dir. Olivier Assayas at 5:30PM
Stars: Clément Métayer, André Marcon, and Lola Créton

L'enfant d'en haut | Sister (2012). Dir. Ursula Meier
Stars: Léa Seydoux and Kacey Mottet Klein

If you like the selection of movies please go to the festival and support the SDSU French department and French Club. All movies are free for everyone in San Diego, so one does not need to be a SDSU student to attend. For more information please visit the official Facebook fan page.

I hope to see some of you at the festival and if you see me don't be afraid to come say hi!

À la prochaine !
